At the meeting they explained to me that the NMBS (national mountain bike series) was closing its doors due to a lack of funds and they told me that their would not be a professional mountain bike race series in the USA for 2009. This was a huge shock to me and we started brain storming about what could be done. Well a bunch of reasons, but here are a few. First, we invented Mountain Biking in the USA, and I was not about to let the national mountain bike series in the US die if I could do anything about it. Second, we need to be competitive on a world level and if we cannot develop and or qualify Olympic riders for the USA that is a tragedy. Third, it is the right thing to do for the community. Times are tough and it isn’t getting any easier for people in this day and age, and I just wanted to create something where people could come out and do something they like and be treated with respect and have a great time as a way even for just a day to get away from in all and have some fun.
